Cable & Wireless is giving well-wishers the
chance to send messages of support direct to Lee Merrien as part of
its sponsorship for the athlete at the Commonwealth Games in
Australia.

Islanders can send emails to
golee@cwgsy.net and he will receive
them in Melbourne on his BlackBerry handset.
Lee hit the headlines when he became the first
islander to run a sub four minute mile last year, a distance for
which he is now ranked in the top 50 in the world.
The sponsorship from Cable & Wireless
enabled Lee to prepare thoroughly for the Games by going out to
Australia 3 weeks ago.
Cable & Wireless marketing manager, Steve
Eldridge, said "Lee approached us for support and we jumped at the
chance to help such an outstanding athlete. We could also see how
technology helps him keep in touch with home so we were delighted
to help."
"He didn't promise to reply to all the messages
but we can understand that as he prepares to run against top
international athletes".
Lee runs in the 800m heats on 22 March and the
1500m heats on 24 March. His aim is to set a personal best time in
reaching the 1500m final.
"We wish Lee every success and are proud to
support him", said Mr Eldridge.
