Mobile network to be upgraded
Cable & Wireless is upgrading its
network to provide additional capacity for the very latest mobile
services.
Commercial director Mark Briers said the
upgrade will ensure the company can continue to meet a growing
demand for the latest mobile technology and features.
‘We have seen from our network how mobile usage
throughout the Bailiwick is increasing month by month. This is
largely being driven by the uptake of new services, such as picture
messaging, Blackberry, and mobile Internet access, which put
greater demand on the network,’ he said.
Engineers from Ericsson, the world’s largest
supplier of mobile infrastructure, will be in the island to assist
with the upgrade.
Mr Briers said it represented a significant
investment by Cable & Wireless, which will ensure the highest
standard of service for its mobile customers.
‘As a company we are committed to further
investing in the island’s telecommunications infrastructure to
ensure that Guernsey continues to have the most up to date and
reliable services available.’
All work will be carried out in the early hours
of the morning, to minimise disruption to the network. It will take
place on Thursday 11 August, and Friday 19 August, and the final
upgrade will be completed on Thursday 25 August.
There will be a short interruption to mobile
services on each occasion.
